Google pays most attention to and rewards you for:
1) Use of keywords in URLS’s
2) Use of keywords in Domain Name
3) Use of Keywords in Page Title Tag
4) Use of H1, H2, H3 tags or font size, bold or unbold
5) Keyword density in page body
Google pays most attention to and Penalizes you for:
1) Text presented in graphics or flash, no actual text
2) Fake Affiliates, Massively interlinked sites with little unique content
3) Overoptimization, basically overdoing any of the above 5
4) Linking to bad neighbors, linking to dubious websites
5) Using automatic refresh in metatags or popups, etc.
